Back Country Trails

During the non-snowy months there is an extensive trail system on Ragged Mountain that originates at the Ragged Mountain Recreation Area (the Camden Snow Bowl). These trails are enjoyed by mountain bikers, hikers, runners, dog walkers and nature lovers. Many of the trails follow or cross the alpine ski trails so they cannot be used during the ski season. The Snow Bowl has a policy that anyone using the alpine ski trails during the winter may do so only during hours when the ski area is open to the public, and a use ticket or season pass is required. Skiers are not allowed to access backcountry skiing from Snow Bowl property and may not access the Snow Bowl alpine ski trails from out of bounds areas.

If you are interested in back country skiing at the Snow Bowl or using the alpine ski trails when the lifts are not operating there is an important set of rules that have been developed to insure that people do not interact with grooming or snowmaking operations, and that they understand and accept the risks of skiing when the area is not running the lifts and not open to the public. Click here for the CLOSED DAYS SKIING POLICY.

Snowshoeing: There are two trails that have been designated off the north and south sides of the ski area that are available for snowshoeing. During normal operating hours the Rental Shop at the Snow Bowl has several pairs of snowshoes for rent.

Nordic Skiing: At this time there are not any Nordic ski trails accessible from the Camden Snow Bowl. However, Nordic skiing is planned in conjunction with the Redevelopment of the Ragged Mountain Recreation Area. There has been a new Nordic/multi-use trail designed, and a grant has been applied for to support the construction of this trail. For more information about the future of Nordic skiing on Ragged Mountain contact Jeff in the Snow Bowl office.
