Hiking
Hiking
Winding through forests of pine and hardwood and grassy fields of the ski slopes a trail network climbs Ragged Mountain and rewards hikers with sweeping views of Camden Harbor, Penobscot Bay, and the surrounding islands.
Kuller Loop Trail
Kuller Trail trailhead is at the pond end of the main parking lot, left (east/ocean side) of the double chairlift. Look for the wide dirt path (vehicles not allowed) and follow the signs. Kuller Trail loops and is multi-use, so expect to see mountain bikers and use caution. You can connect to the Red Diamond hiking trail to the summit as the trail juts out onto Lookout ski trail - look for the red blaze. There is also a set of kiosks with information and maps available near the boat launch, just before entering the main parking lot.
The Kuller Trail is about 2 miles long and about a 45-minute walk. Hikers can also access the Red Diamond Trail from the Kuller Trail.
Red Diamond Trail
Open for hiking in the summer and fall, the Red Diamond Summer Hiking Trail (see map below) is about a 3-mile, 90 minute walk. Begin on the rocky summit access road under the triple chairlift to the trail marker at Tower 5.
Hosmer Brook Trail
Hosmer Brook Trail is for hiking only. Hosmer Brook Trail does not loop, so plan to turn back once you reach the end. The trail begins to the right (west/southwest) of the base of the triple chairlift and the stone wall where the bike trail turns left, about 3/10s of a mile from the parking lot. Travel up along the farthest tree line and then enter the woods at the sign. The Hosmer Brook Trail is a 1.1 mile lollipop-shaped hiking and snowshoeing trail maintained by Coastal Mountains Land Trust.
Round the Mountain Trail
The 6.5 mi long Round the Mountain Trail is a 6–8 ft wide (mostly) gravel trail ideal for hiking, running, and biking, accessed from two trailheads. The trail from Thorndike Brook trailhead provides the smoothest surface and most gradual ascent for biking or walking. The trail from the Snow Bowl is bumpier and steeper, ascending the mountain along the Kuller Loop. The trip from the Snow Bowl to Thorndike Brook is 5.6 mile loop.
